Nestled in the stunning Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Sipapu Ski Resort is all about fun, family, and friendly vibes. To make sure everyone has a great time, here are some easy tips for being awesome on the mountain. Whether you’re a pro or it’s your first run, these will help everyone enjoy the day.
1. Be Chill in the Lift Line
No one likes a line cutter. Be patient, wait your turn, and if you’re confused, just ask a liftie — they’re there to help!
2. Keep It Cozy in the Line
Hold your gear close so you don’t bump into anyone and be mindful of your poles, and let groups stick together when you can. Everyone’s here for a good time.
3. Watch Your Words
We all have our moments, but keep the language clean. There are kiddos around, and good vibes go a long way. Also, keep speakers off the slopes to keep the natural vibes alive.
4. Save the Alcohol or Weed for Après-Ski
Skiing and snowboarding are more fun (and safer!) when you’re sharp. Celebrate your runs with an adult beverage after, not during. Plus, alcohol + drugs on forest land is illegal!
5. Share the Chair
Make a new friend and share the chair! Load a chair fully to capacity. Chairlifts are a great place to chat or just enjoy the view. Be polite when loading and unloading, and make room for everyone.
Also — give a friendly warning before you pull down the bar to avoid bonking anyone on the head!
Another pro tip, often snowboarders prefer the outside seat of the chairlift so they can hang their board off and exit the lift. Although not required, it’s nice to offer a boarder the outside seat.
6. Ski in Control
Stay in control so you can stop or avoid anything in your path. Stick to trails that match your skill level and enjoy the ride. If you’re on the beginner trails, be careful of the beginners who are trying to make their way down.
7. Give Space to Others
If you’re the uphill skier or rider, the downhill skier or rider has the right of way, so pay close attention to what’s ahead of you — remember the skier or rider in front of you can’t see you, and could be less skilled than you. Pass with plenty of room and avoid sudden stops where people can’t see you.
8. Step Aside on the Trails
Need a break? Pull off to the side so you’re not in the way. Find a visible, safe spot to chill or adjust your gear. If you’re in a group stopping to chat, don’t block the whole trail. Cluster on the side and leave space for other skiers or riders to shred.
9. Take a Lesson & Learn the Basics
Take advantage of our lessons. Be at our ski school area about 10 minutes before your lesson, and while tips for instructors are not required, they are very much appreciated!
10. Spread the Love
Sipapu’s natural beauty is part of the magic. Toss trash in the bins and keep the trails pristine for everyone.Helping someone out — whether it’s directions or fixing a strap, or checking on someone when they fall — keeps Sipapu’s friendly vibe alive. A little kindness goes a long way.
Make Every Day a Great One
These tips aren’t just rules — they’re about making sure everyone has a blast. Respect each other, the staff, and the mountain, and we’ll see you out there carving up the slopes!
