The Scenic Route to Sipapu

Conveniently located on Highway 518, Sipapu is just 20 scenic miles southeast of Taos in northwestern New Mexico. No matter where you’re driving from, our resort is easy to access, and Highway 518 is paved, plowed, and extra wide for easy winter travel.

Directions to Sipapu from Taos, NM

  • Estimated Travel Time: Less than 40 minutes
  • Take Hwy 68 South to Hwy 518.
  • Make a left on Hwy 518 and continue 20 scenic miles until you reach Sipapu Ski & Summer Resort.

Faster, More Scenic Directions to Sipapu from Alburquerque, NM

  • Estimated Travel Time: Around 2.5 hours
  • Take I-25 North to exit 276.
  • Turn left onto NM-599 North/Veteran’s Memorial Hwy toward Santa Fe/Relief Route.
  • Merge onto US_285 N/US-84 N via the ramp to Espanola.
  • Turn right at Cundiyo Rd/NM-503.
  • NOTE: From this point on, follow the brown HIGH ROAD TO TAOS signs.
  • Turn left at Juan Medina Rd/CR-98 (you will see the HIGH ROAD TO TAOS sign just before this intersection).
  • Just past Chimayo, turn right onto NM-76 (you will see the HIGH ROAD TO TAOS at this intersection).
  • Turn left to stay on NM-76 (you will see the HIGH ROAD TO TAOS sign and a building with a brightly-painted mural you can’t miss).
  • Turn right at NM-75 E (you will see the HIGH ROAD TO TAOS sign and another directional sign pointing toward Taos – follow that sign).
  • Near Penasco, turn left to stay on NM-75 E (you will see a sign for Sipapu here).
  • After Vadito, merge right at NM-518 S (you willl see a sign for Sipapu here).
  • Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort is approximately 5 miles from this intersection, on the right!

The Easy Way to Sipapu from Alburquerque, NM

  • Estimated Travel Time: Less than 3 hours
  • Take I-25 North to exit 276.
  • Turn left onto NM-599 North/Veteran’s Memorial Hwy toward Santa Fe/Relief Route.
  • Merge onto US_285 N/US-84 N via the ramp to Espanola.
  • From Espanola, follow NM-68 N through the Rio Grande Valley.
  • Turn right onto Hwy 75 (you will see a sign for Sipapu and a winery on your right).
  • Near Penasco, turn left to stay on NM-75 E (you will see a sign for Sipapu here).
  • After Vadito, merge right at NM-518 S (you will see a sign for Sipapu here).
  • Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort is approximately 5 miles from this intersection, on the right.

Directions to Sipapu from Santa Rosa, NM (I-40 East)

  • Estimated Travel Time: Less than 3 hours
  • About 17 miles past Santa Rosa take exit 256 for US-84 N toward Las Vegas.
  • Turn right at US-84 N.
  • Turn right to merge onto I-25 N.
  • Take exit 343 toward NM-283/I-25 BUS/NM-329/Las Vegas.
  • Turn left at NM-518 N/US-85-N.
  • Turn left at 7th St/NM-518 N.
  • Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort is approximately 54 miles from this intersection, on the left!

Scenic Directions to Sipapu from Angel Fire, NM

  • Estimated Travel Time: About an hour
  • Go North on NM-434 N.
  • Turn left at US-64 W (you will need to make a couple of lefts to stay on US-64 W).
  • Turn left at NM-68 S/Paseo Del Pueblo Sur in Taos.
  • Make a left onto Hwy 518.
  • Continue 20 scenic miles until you reach Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort.
