COVID Health and Safety

GM update

Welcome to Sipapu!

Off the beaten path, and a great place for a true getaway, Sipapu is waiting for you to come to enjoy our mountain. While things may look a little different when you come this year, we are working our best to make it a memorable vacation for you. We want you to enjoy your time with us while taking appropriate precautions. Your health and safety, and that of our employees is a top priority for us.

Please abide by New Mexico guidelines for physical distancing, face coverings, and hygiene. Please review these guidelines here.

What to expect:

  • Sipapu encourages face coverings and physical distancing for all guests.
  • Food can be ordered online here. The Riverside Cafe bar will not be open for indoor seating. Guests are welcome to sit outside. Sipapu has several ideal outdoor locations for eating outside including the riverside patio and in the meadow area riverside near the parking lot.
  • Individuals or groups traveling together may request to a lift operator their own chair. Otherwise, chairs and cabins will be loaded normally.
  • Lift Line spacing is encouraged.

Face coverings will be required in all indoor public settings, including:

  • Restaurants
  • Lodging check-in
  • Restrooms
  • Guest service station
  • Group lessons
  • Sipapu Store
  • Rental Shop

Face coverings will not be required outdoors, in lift or ticket lines, or on chairlifts, unless required by state or federal regulations.

Just like last season, we will also be using electrostatic sprayers to disinfect all ski and snowboard rental equipment, indoor public spaces, and bathrooms.

NEW | UPDATE DECEMBER 29, 2021: Due to the surge of the Omicron variant, indoor seating is no longer available. Guests are invited to order online and enjoy their food outside at our picnic tables.

Sipapu anticipates normal chairlift operations this year and asks guests to ride on a lift with people outside their party  — make a new friend! The “singles” line will group singles together to fill a chair. Sipapu will accommodate any request to ride the chairlift alone or with only members of their family. Please ask the lift operators to assist you with this request. Sipapu encourages guests riding with others outside their traveling party to wear a face covering.

Sipapu will kick off the season by offering both group and private lessons, and plans to adjust ski school throughout the season.

  • Group lessons for ages 6-12 yrs old will be limited to 6-8 students.
  • Group lessons for ages 13+ will be limited to 8-10 students.
  • Group Lessons for 3, 4 & 5-year-old children are not available for the 2021/22 season.
  • Private lessons are the only option for 3, 4 & 5-year-old children.

Lessons must be purchased online ahead of time. Please note that we have limited capacity for our lessons.

Face coverings will be required in all lessons 12 and under regardless of vaccination status. If a guest is 13 and older and can maintain 6′ of distance from the instructor, a face-covering requirement will be at the instructor’s discretion. Guests should have a face covering on whenever they cannot maintain 6′ of distance from other guests or the instructor.

All employees are required to undergo daily health screenings regardless of vaccination status, must wear face coverings in all public indoor settings, and must wear a face covering outdoors when social distancing of 6’ can not be maintained. Employees are also required to regularly wash their hands and stay home if sick or feeling sick.

Events, live entertainment, and music are expected to return for the 2021/22 season! Visit our events calendar for more information.

For guest and employee safety, all transactions will be cashless, except in our Sipapu store. This includes lodging, restaurants, ski and ride school, and all other points of sale. The one exception is the Sipapu Store, where cash will be accepted but cashless transactions are preferred.

Exposure to COVID-19 is an inherent risk in any public location where people are present. Sipapu has implemented protocols to prioritize guest health and safety, but we cannot guarantee you will not be exposed to COVID-19 during your visit. The risk of being exposed or becoming sick due to COVID-19 cannot be eliminated. Every skier and rider shares the responsibility for a safe and healthy skiing experience. It is your responsibility to read and comply with all instructions and signage posted at the resort and on the website. Stay home if you are sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Wear a face covering in designated areas. Wash and sanitize your hands frequently.
