Today marks the start of a week-long cold snap with overnight lows predicted to be in the teens plus snow is in the forecast Saturday through Monday. The top priority for the mountain team is to hop in the snowcats and push out the snow so we have a good foundation for continued snowmaking efforts. Once we’ve solidified a skiable route on Thumper we’ll transition the guns up the mountain to Butterfly to get a top to bottom route ready (accessed by Lift 1). I anticipate a 24-hour snowmaking push Sunday night into Monday to achieve this.
The snowmaking crew has been focusing their efforts on Thumper accessed by our newest lift, Jackalope, a quad chairlift. I’ve been pleasantly surprised that the overnight lows have actually proved to be colder than initially forecasted and I’m impressed with the product the team has been able to produce in conjunction with the natural snow we’ve received so far. Overall, we now have five very successful nights of snowmaking under our belts. We have commissioned enough snowmaking machinery to blow many snow piles, and we are now pushing these piles out in preparation for opening day.
